Who do I call to get a total of my medical bills to start negotiations on a car accident settlement?
Who has been paying the bills along the way? Sometimes your own health insurance has been paying, sometimes your own auto insurance has been paying, sometimes the bills haven't been paid and they are just sitting there, then you need to ask the providers. By the way, if your health insurance has been paying and you receive a settlement, your health insurance will want to be reimbursed. It's called subrogation. And it's your responsibility to be in contact with your health insurance if they have paid anything. If your own auto insurance has been paying, they also might want to be reimbursed from the settlement. However, the adjuster at the other company should also be helping to track down this information. Do not settle until you know how much you have to pay back in bills, and who is going to pay those companys. Ideally you want the other insurance to pay them directly. You don't want the hle of them sending the whole check to you and you having to pay back everybody. Don't sign a release until this is figured out.
