Why are people so enamored of the famous?

It seems we are bombarded with their craziness, stupidity or whatever you call it. Do you think they forgot where they came from before they got famous? I think when you go to Hollywood and become famous, it is a requirement that you act stupid and over the top. I can't imagine having the money to pay 450.00 for a bra or 2500.00 for a purse. Opinions?
