Chemistry: Lighting Alchohol in waterjug causes it to crush?

My chemistry teacher did this cool experiment where he pours around 4 ml of alchol in this big plastic water jug. Then he drops a lit splint in it which causes it to make a little explosion. Then he puts his hand over the top opening and the jug starts to crush. How does this happen?
