Sending beef jerky to k-16?
Don't worry about packing too much with beef jerky. The people at the post office have a lot of experience shipping to soldiers deployed. They have standard one-rate boxes that you can pack to the gills for one low price. Get one of these. Beef jerky will make the trip just fine. Things like chocolate won't. You also don't have to worry about sending pork products (unless he is muslim). Mail is handled by US Soldiers only. The post office has a customs declaration form that you will fill out, all you will write is his address, yours, and "beef jerky". I know he will appreciate the package, send them as often as you can. I'm currently deployed and getting mail is the highlight of our day.
