I thought one of the best things about this country was freedom of religion WHAT IS HAPPENING?

This country is so great because of all the freedoms we get, but as in recent laws such as don't ask, don't tell, the leaders of this country are being religiously biased towards their actions now I chose that example because ity is denounced in the "Holy Bible" thus, making our congressmen vote for these christian-based laws to not let them be married except for a few select states. Another example is abortion laws, abortion is frowned upon by christianity thus these laws were created. Also, in the pledge of allegiance "God" is capitalized as he is the creator but not all of us believe that.Can someone shed some more light on this for me?
